In racing, performance is key. The timetable is mandatory while keeping the budget is appreciable.

Renault 5 1985 Turbo Production

Design, development, and race setup for Renault Sport.

The Renault 5 Turbo was so successful that Renault Sport got directly involved in racing using it. Later, Renault used the R21.

Project Goal

Design a car with an atmospheric engine that could beat the major builders’ more powerful, expensive turbos.

The project began from scratch with the option of a carryover of Porsche 959 elements. An oversized chassis and suspension, 4WD-transmission, and steering were the overarching concerns.

Complete vehicle design and study providing the full manufacturing drawing (powertrain, chassis and suspension, 4W steering, bodywork, cooling), bodywork master building, choice and control of major sub-contractors, initial assembly followed by supervision of the assembly at Mega.

Three-time French champion at the 1993-1996 Andros ice race. The same cars competed in ice races for several seasons with changes in motorization.

Prototype Le Mans SNBE

Design for the Le Mans category LMP1 car was heavily inspired by modern race car technologies such as the Formule 1.

The 3 dampers suspension allows a decoupled (separate) control of heave and roll modes, idea followed since fir instance by Porsche 919 Hybrid Rear Suspension described in the Andrea Quintarelli's blog.

Prototype Le Mans Matra 640

Robert Choulet’s extremely ambitious, futurist Matra 640 design flew into the air on the first round of the 1969 Le Mans track, wounding the car’s young driver, Henri Pescarolo. Read the full story in the site: "mmoires des stands".

In 2006, it was no small achievement to keep the car on the ground at the speed that it should have reached 40 years ago.

Analysis, simulation, definition of new set-up, on-board data acquisition (notice the sensor monitoring ride height relative to the ground in the extreme front of the car) and the valiant Henri Pescarolo as the test pilot.

Lola Indy Regency, Indianapolis 1994

The month of May is spent perfecting cars before the Indy 500 qualifyings.

An oval track with four identical turns, banked on the left, taken at 3g with entirely asymmetrical set-up and an average speed of 223.673 mph (near 360 km/h) with 900 hp!

Arie Luyendyk had his best qualification of the season with the 8th fastest time on the third row, between two world champions -- Mario Andretti and Nigel Mansell -- who were driving for much more powerful teams.


Buggy Duc Z Paris Dakar

During the Dakar 1993, Grard Bourgoin’s american buggies suffered endless technical problems ; Renault Sport advised him to contact SODEMO and SERA who had developped Hubert Auriol’s buggy.

The vehicles were entirely redesigned with the productive collaboration of Jean-Pierre Cottret:

At the 1994 Dakar, against Citroen and Mitsubishi works teams, Philippe Wambergue took the 3rd place with his Diesel, while Jrme Rivire finished 7th and won a stage with the gasoline version.
